Mind racing after work today. Getting from point A to point B on my bike as quickly as possible. Emails still to send. Kids to be fed. Writing to be commented upon. Friends to respond to. A song to finish. An article needing editing. A late bill to be paid. An apology to offer. A resentment to be
released. I pause pedaling, the bike slowing to a stop. For a minute, I watch the sun dip behind the mosque, beams of light filling the space around me. Literally one minute at most. But a minute is all I need. "Thank you," I whisper to no one in particular.
Shortly after, a student speeding in his SUV nearly runs me down on a cross walk. I have to refrain from screaming at him.
No matter, I had my moment of gratitude and peace.
